Kevin Manuel
Pastor

Kevin’s faith journey began in the Roman Catholic Church in which he was baptized and brought up with his four siblings, first in the San Francisco Bay Area and then later in the Sierra Nevada Mountains where his paternal roots go back to the Gold Rush. It was here that he became an avid trout fisherman, a passion that continues to this day.

By his sophomore year in college he had relocated from Newman Hall parish to First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley, a congregation in which he experienced the kind of Christian community, ministry and mission that set the trajectory for his spiritual and vocational pilgrimage to the present. It’s also here that he met his wife Tina. They were engaged on a fishing trip and married in the fall of 1994.

After attending Fuller Theological Seminary, Kevin was ordained as a campus pastor to UC Berkeley staff, students and faculty in 2001, while also serving as a Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley.  More recently he has served as an interim pastor and associate pastor at two Taiwanese congregations in the San Francisco Presbytery.

Kevin and Tina have two children, Mark (7) and Abigail (4).  They enjoy participating in the local, sustainable food movement, cooking and hosting meals for family and friends, as well as running, reading, and watching good films.

Mickey Sanchez
Co-Director of College & Children's Ministry

Mickey Sanchez was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from the Bronx High School of Science he studied political science at New York University and the City University of New York at York College. During this time Mickey led several ministries on campus, including Campus Crusade for Christ and the Christian Inter-Fellowship Council. One of his most enjoyable memories from college involves beginning and sustaining a fruitful dialogue with the Atheists, Agnostics, & Freethinkers Club.

Upon graduating, Mickey was offered a position as Community Services Director for New York City Council Member John C. Liu. Mickey used his free time to help out the college ministries at NYU in ministry to students with struggling with doubt. His relationship with the Atheist, Agnostics & Freethinkers Club blossomed into a co-sponsored lecture series on topics of faith & reason and a co-sponsored Veritas Forum.

Mickey is currently completing an M.Div. (Master of Divinity) at Gordon-Conwell while exploring the option of doing doctoral work in comparative religion or philosophy of religion. Mickey is also considering the long term goal of church planting in NYC or some other global city.
